This is a matter of preference but most of our clients change their wheels because their factory wheels are too big in diameter, not comfortable or not ergonomically designed, or are not suitable for their racing, performance or autocross requirements, or are just plain boring and ugly.
Our wheels are made to very exacting European TUV standards. They are made in Italy just like those other expensive Italian wheels but without their massive advertising and marketing overheads. We therefore sell equivalent wheels for considerably less money than them. Our wheels are made to the same high quality standards as them and we also make our own hub kits, as well as matching accessories like gearshift knobs and boots but most importantly, our wheels bolt right onto our unique Snap-Off quick release anti-theft systems.
Wheel installation is a very easy operation and can be done by anybody with limited mechanical skills. If you are not mechanically inclined, take it to your local mechanic and have him do the install for you. It should take less than 45 minutes for a qualified mechanic to do this work. All our wheels and quick release systems come with full instructions and in addition we will be happy to talk “installation” with you on the phone or by email.
You will need a deep socket to match the bolt size on your steering column, a ratchet, and an Allen key (4mm). A torque wrench is recommended to ensure that you re-tighten the bolt to the correct specification after installing the hub kit. The torque specifications are generally included with our hub kits.
This is purely a personal preference but you want to ensure that the wheel diameter is not too small because it will require greater turning effort the smaller it is from stock. In our opinion a wheel, one size smaller than stock will yield greatest dividends, it will feel much more responsive, provide greater steering input for racing and autocrossing and will not require a noticeable effort to turn. If you are autocrossing or racing you may also want to investigate the relative merits of the wheel covering material.
Leather is by far the most popular covering material chosen by our clients. It is very easy to keep clean, feels and looks luxurious and comes in a tremendous selection of styles and colors. It is the perennial favorite of car owners.
Leatherette is now closing in on our leather wheels as a preferred covering material, because of cost and also because our leatherette is sometimes virtually indistinguishable from our more costly leather wheels. These wheels are so close to leather in looks that we have to point out to our clients the difference between them and leather. They feel like leather but do not breathe as well as leather though. In our opinion, they are a bargain for what you get.
Suede is the preferred material for track use because it provides good grip even with clammy hands, it does however show wear much quicker than smooth leather. Most of our suede wheels also come with a distinct contrasting band at the 12 o’clock position, to quickly inform the driver where “straight ahead” is, when he is pre-occupied with keeping the car on the track through turns.
Carbon Fiber-look. These are specialty wheels and cost is commensurate with the exotic materials used. We make some remarkable wheels in these materials but the good news is that they are priced way below our competitor’s similar products. If you are in the market for these high-end esoteric materials, surf the web, then check out our offerings or call us
First you need to determine if we make a hub kit that fits your car. Your stock wheel is an integral wheel and hub unit and is generally made to fit your car only. Our hub kits and wheels are manufactured to fit virtually any car and we do this by separating the wheel from the hub. We manufacture a specific and unique hub kit for almost any make or model of car on the market. This hub kit will fit your car just like your factory hub so that your horn can function like it came from the factory. We then mate it to any of our wheels making it possible for you to select any wheel we manufacture. This method allows you an unlimited choice of wheel size, style, and covering material. Please give us a call to see if we have a hub to fit your year, make and model of car.
Once you know we have a hub kit for your car, the rest is easy, just browse the wheels and choose the one that you like, but please re-read the information in the item “Which wheel should I buy”. We want you to be as pleased with the way your wheel looks as the way it functions. We ultimately want you to be a sharper driver.
We told you why we are so competitive - we do not spend massive amounts of money on advertising and marketing. This is a direct benefit to you right here! Shipping is typically only $10 - $15 for an individual order.
We do not endorse the removal of your car’s factory airbag-equipped steering wheel. But, we realize that some of you wish to do this for racing or for show purposes. And, as a result we do make hub adapters to fit some airbag-equipped cars. Please call or email us to find out if we can fit your airbag-equipped car.
With regard to the actual removal of the factory airbag-equipped wheel, many dealers across North America will remove your factory steering wheel if you sign a waiver. It is not a difficult process and should only take an hour at the most. Please discuss this with your dealer or your local mechanic.
You definitely can. Our web presence allows us to market our products to a very wide audience but we remain extremely accessible.
